Koyama Dojo Chief Instructor

Sensei Scott Evans begun his training in Hakko Denshin Ryu as a self-defense student at the University of Akron. This program was created by Soke Michael LaMonica and has been in existence for over thirty years. The techniques taught were based on Hakko Denshin Ryu and this brief exposure was enough to spark the interest of Sensei Evans. Sensei Evans then began receiving instruction at the Eighth Light Dojo in Akron, Ohio in 1995. It was in 2003, at the rank of Sandan (third degree) that Sensei Evans moved to Michigan for family reasons. With rare exception, he traveled to Ohio to train every other weekend until he was ready to test for the rank of Yondan. After this promotion, he longed to continue to learn and to pass the art on to all who were willing to learn. The Ann Arbor YMCA was gracious enough to allow Sensei Evans to begin teaching in July 2004. In August of 2005, Soke Michael LaMonica invited Sensei Evans to participate in Shihan training. On August 5, 2005 Sensei Evans was awarded the rank of Shihan (master instructor) at our annual Taikai (meeting of the masters).
